# Change your theme, sounds, and notifications

> Turn on dark mode or light mode, pick a built-in theme or have Ari build your own, play a sound when Ari finishes, and get a browser notification when Ari replies, without changing what your teammates see.

Use these settings to make cfo.ai look and sound the way you like. They change only your own view: your teammates keep theirs. Your theme is saved to your account, so it follows you to any browser. Color mode, Ari's sound, and browser notifications are saved in the browser you set them in.

## Turn on dark mode or light mode

Open the account menu, your name or picture at the bottom of the sidebar, point at **Appearance**, and choose **Auto**, **Light**, or **Dark**. **Auto** follows your device's setting. The same choice is under **Color mode** in **Settings → General → Appearance**.

## Choose a theme

Open **Settings → General**. Under **Appearance**, open **Theme** and choose one of the built-in themes, such as **Warm paper**, which is cfo.ai's own, or **Prism**. The app changes as soon as you pick.

In a workspace that has a brand, **Theme** is replaced by a note that the workspace uses its brand. Everyone there sees the brand's colors, and your theme applies in your workspaces that have no brand. See [Brand your workspace](/guides/brand-your-workspace.md).

## Build your own theme with Ari

A custom theme can set:

* The page and panel colors, the text color, and one accent color, each for both light and dark mode.
* A heading typeface: **Source Serif**, **Newsreader**, **Fraunces**, **Zilla Slab**, or **DM Sans**. Without one, headings use cfo.ai's own typeface.
* A corner shape: square, soft (cfo.ai's own), or round.
* Up to three chart colors, which replace the first three colors charts and Canvas blocks draw with.
* Sidebar colors, as a pair: a sidebar color and a sidebar text color. Without them the sidebar uses the page colors.

A theme cannot set a brand font; fonts beyond the five typefaces belong to a workspace brand. The colors that mark good and bad, such as a red variance, stay the same in every theme. cfo.ai saves your colors as you give them and refuses a theme whose colors would be hard to read together; the refusal names each pair with the contrast it reaches and the contrast it needs.

**Ask Ari**

Describe the look you want, and give it a short name:

> Give me a deep teal accent with a near-black dark mode. Call it Teal dark.

Ari saves the whole theme at once. To change one part, such as the accent, say so; Ari keeps the rest of your current theme. To see what you have, ask "What is my theme set to?"

**By hand**

**1. Choose Custom**

In **Settings → General → Appearance**, open **Theme** and choose **Custom**.

**2. Describe it**

Type the look you want in the box that reads **Create a custom theme**, such as "warm gray with a green accent".

**3. Hand it to Ari**

Select **Personalize**. A chat opens where Ari builds the theme from your description.

## Hear a sound when Ari finishes

Ari can play a short sound when it finishes a reply, which helps when you work in another tab. Open **Settings → Ari**, and under **Sound** check **Play sound when Ari is done**. Choose a volume, **Quiet**, **Normal**, or **Louder**, and an **Alert sound**, **Default** or **Beep Me**. Each change plays the sound so you can hear it.

## Get a notification when Ari finishes

Your browser can notify you when Ari replies, or needs your answer, in a chat you are not looking at.

**1. Turn it on**

In **Settings → Ari**, under **Notifications**, turn on **Notify me when Ari finishes in this browser**.

**2. Allow notifications**

When your browser asks whether cfo.ai may show notifications, allow it.

The setting applies to this browser only, so turn it on in each browser where you want it. Ari stays quiet while you are looking at the chat. Notifications cover chats you have with Ari in cfo.ai, not Slack conversations or scheduled Trigger runs. After a long reply, the chat may offer the same switch above the message box. If the switch is grayed out with **Notifications are blocked for cfo.ai. Allow them in your browser’s site settings to turn this on.**, allow notifications for cfo.ai in your browser's site settings, then come back to the tab.
