# Your first week with cfo.ai

> Five short lessons that build on your first Model: a forecast you can explain, a Page you can share, a decision tested in a Scenario, a review of the Model's weak spots, and a weekly update from Ari.

Your first Model is a starting point. Over the next five days, we turn it into something you use every week: a forecast you can explain, a Page you can share, a decision you can test before you make it, and a weekly update you do not have to ask for. Each lesson takes about ten minutes.

Before you start, finish [Build your first Model](/tutorials/first-model.md). Each lesson begins in a new chat: press **⌘ /** (**Ctrl /** on Windows and Linux). Replace the words in brackets with your own.

## Day 2: Build out your forecast

Today we make the forecast explain itself, so you can say which assumptions move it.

**1. Ask Ari to build from what drives your business**

> Build out our forecast. Calculate revenue from \[new customers, pricing, and churn] and costs from \[headcount and our biggest vendors]. Put the assumptions where I can see and change them.

Notice the assumptions Ari adds, such as a churn rate or a price. They sit in the Model where you can see and change them.

**2. Trace one forecast number**

Right-click a revenue cell in a future month, choose **Mention cell in chat**, and ask:

> How is this calculated? Which assumptions move it the most?

Notice that Ari shows the formula behind the number and names the assumptions it reads.

**3. Have Ari explain a whole table**

Point at the left edge of a table, select its six-dot handle, and choose **Explain with Ari**.

Notice that a new chat opens with a request to explain the table. Ari answers with what the table shows, how it is built, and how to read it.

You are done when you can name the two or three assumptions that move your forecast most.

## Day 3: Build a Page you would share

Today we turn the Model into a Page other people can read, and create a link to share it.

**1. Ask for a summary Page**

> Build a \[board / monthly] summary Page with a row of our five key numbers and their change since last month, a cash runway gauge, and a slider so I can try different hiring dates and see the effect on cash.

The gauge and the slider are Canvas blocks: custom visuals Ari writes for you from live Model data. Move the slider and notice that the chart changes but your saved assumptions do not. A slider previews; it never changes the Model.

**2. Browse the Canvas library for ideas**

Select **Browse Canvas block library**, the palette icon at the bottom left of the message box, pick a template that looks useful, and select **Add (1)**. The template joins your message as a chip. Send the message, and Ari builds it.

![The Ari chat message box with the palette icon at the bottom left highlighted and labeled Browse Canvas block library.](https://mintcdn.com/cfoai/dqJjrDwbaBHRYrEO/images/canvas-block-library-button.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dqJjrDwbaBHRYrEO\&q=85\&s=79b6810f858f33d51c10b18e1f12548f)

The Canvas block library button sits at the bottom left of the chat message box.

**3. Share the Page with a read-only link**

Select **Share** in the Page header. Under **External access**, select **Create link**, then select the copy button on the new link, **Copy external link**.

Paste the link into a private or incognito browser window. Notice that the Page opens without a sign-in, and that you can read it but not change it. Anyone you send the link to sees the same.

You are done when your Page opens through its link.

## Day 4: Test a decision in a Scenario

Today we see what a decision costs before we make it, without changing your plan.

**1. Ask Ari for a Scenario**

> Create a Scenario called \[Hire two engineers in Q1]. \[Add two engineers at \$X per year starting in January.] Compare cash and cash runway with Main, and add the comparison to my \[board] Page.

**2. Look at both versions**

Notice the Scenario picker in the sidebar, above your Pages. Main is your plan; the new Scenario holds only the hires. On the Page, the comparison shows both versions of cash side by side.

You are done when your Page shows what the decision does to cash runway. To learn how Scenarios stay in step with Main, read [Scenarios and Snapshots](/concepts/scenarios.md).

## Day 5: Pressure-test your Model

Every company is different, so today we ask Ari where your Model is weakest.

**1. Ask for a review**

> Review my Model without changing it. Which assumptions look weakest compared with our history? What is missing, and what should I build next?

Because you said not to change anything, Ari reads and reports. Nothing in the Model moves.

**2. Fix the most important gap**

Pick the suggestion that matters most, such as checking a growth rate against your Actuals or [building headcount from payroll](/guides/build-a-headcount-plan.md), and ask Ari to do it.

Notice that the Pages that show the change update as Ari saves it.

You are done when you have fixed or built one thing Ari flagged.

## Day 6: Let Ari keep watch

Today we set up a weekly update, so you hear what matters without opening the app.

**1. Schedule a Trigger**

A Trigger runs a prompt on a schedule and sends you the result:

> Every Monday at 8am \[your time zone], summarize last week's cash in and out, show our current cash runway, and flag any expense that looks different from our recent pattern. Include a link to my \[board] Page.

Ari asks whether to send results to your Slack direct messages or your email. Choose one.

**2. Check that it is saved**

> List my Triggers.

Notice the name and schedule Ari saved.

You are done when you have one Trigger saved.

## What you built

In one week you went from a first draft to a working setup: a forecast you can explain, a Page you can share, a decision tested in a Scenario, a Model you have pressure-tested, and a weekly update that arrives on its own.

## Next steps

* Invite a teammate to work in the Model with you. Ask Ari, "Invite \[[name@company.com](mailto:name@company.com)] to the workspace," or see [Invite or remove teammates](/guides/invite-teammates.md).
* After your books close each month, compare your Actuals with your Forecast and update the assumptions that turned out wrong: [Update your plan after you close the month](/guides/close-the-month.md).
* Teach Ari a process you repeat, such as your month-end review: [Save a workflow as a Skill](/guides/save-a-skill.md).
* Look up more prompts in the [Prompt library](/reference/prompt-library.md).
