Aggregation

The process of combining several values into one result, such as a sum or average.

Date reference

A named point on the timeline. Last close commonly separates closed Actuals from future Forecast periods.

Dimension

A named category used to group, filter, or segment Variables. Examples include Department, Region, and Product.

Dimension item

One entry within a Dimension, such as Sales within Department or West within Region.

Expression

The part of a formula that describes what to calculate.

Formula

A saved calculation for a Variable. A formula has an expression and a scope.

Formula range

A span of the timeline that can use its own formula, such as Actuals or Forecast.

Scenario

A version of the Model, such as Main or Plan. Formulas are saved within a Scenario.

Scope

The part of the Model where a formula applies. Scope can include Dimensions, Dimension items, Date, and formula ranges.

Segment

A slice of a Variable’s data identified by one or more Dimension items, such as Revenue for Sales.

Segmentation

The Table Block role that groups data by a Dimension. Use Segment by to expose the relevant slices.

Cell address

The complete identity of one value: a Variable, one item from each applicable Dimension, and a period.

Variable

A named model quantity — a value you calculate, aggregate, or hold, such as Revenue, Headcount, or Gross Margin. A formula calculates a Variable’s value.
