This page lists every control, menu action, option, and message of a Table block, in the order the table shows them. For steps, see the guides linked in each section. Keyboard shortcuts are in Keyboard shortcuts. Editing controls appear only when you can edit the Page, in a desktop browser. A phone, a past version opened from version history, and a Page you can only read show the table without them.

Table header

The strip above the grid, from left to right. On a phone, the header shows the title, the date range, Mention table in chat, and Table block settings.

Table block settings menu

The … button at the right of the table header.

Table setup panel

Opened with Show table setup. It has four sections, from top to bottom: Layout, Formula, Columns, and Rows.

Layout section

Formula section

Which formula columns are open is remembered in your browser. See Use different formulas for Actuals and Forecast.

Columns and Rows sections

Each section lists what is on that axis as a tree. Drag an item to reorder it, to nest it under another, or to move it between Columns and Rows. At rest, each item shows small marks for what is set on it: an eye with a line through it when hidden, the sort, a funnel with the number of items the filter keeps, a branch with the number of breakdown levels, and the date grain. Right-click an item for the same right-click menus as in the grid; here the remove action reads Remove item, or Remove item and drill-ins for an item with levels under it.

Controls in the grid

Select a range of cells to see a bar at the lower right of the Page: Count:, Sum:, and Avg: for the numbers in the selection, rounded to two decimals. Cells without a number are not counted.

Add rows and columns: the Create or search field

Add row, Add column, Insert above and its neighbors, and the setup panel’s Add open the same search field, Create or search. Type to find Variables, Dimensions, and items; select one to add it.

Right-click menus

Right-click (or Control-click) a row name, a column header, a Dimension’s label row, or a cell. With a cell or name selected, Shift F10 opens the same menu. Each menu shows only the actions that apply. All tables beside an action means it changes every table that shows that Dimension.

Variable row or column menu

A row or column for a Variable, such as Revenue, or a column that shows each row’s item, such as Department.

Dimension item menu

A row or column for one item, such as Sales.

Dimension menu

Opens from a Dimension’s label row, such as DEPARTMENT, or from [Dimension] dimension settings on any of its items. For actions that change the layout, such as Filter items, Sort, and Insert above, the Dimension’s level must be saved on this table. A level that Segment by added under one item only offers none of them. On a read-only table, the menu keeps Display as.

Cell menu

With several cells selected, the menu reads [N] items selected and offers Format and display, for each selected cell, and Paste. Select a range that includes row names, or press ⌘ A, and right-click a row name.

Total column header menu

Right-click a total column’s header and choose its summary: None, Sum, Average, Minimum, Maximum, Count, or Last. See Total columns.

Removing and deleting

Each Variable and Dimension you create on a table has that table as its original table. When a delete would break something, cfo.ai asks first:

Format and display options

Right-click a row name, a column header, or a cell and choose Format and display. On a read-only table, the menu has none of these. A cell’s own format wins over its column’s, and a column’s over its row’s. A Variable can also carry a default format that Ari sets; a table’s own format wins over it. A format never changes how a Variable adds up. When several selected rows differ, an option shows Mixed. The Dimension menu has its own Format and display with Dimension color and Display as.

Date formats

How each Date format shows a period at each grain. The examples use September 2, 2026, the week of August 24, 2026, and the third quarter of 2026. Weeks are numbered Monday to Sunday, and WE shows the Sunday that ends the week. Raw dates use the Day form.

Total columns

A total column, also called a summary column, sits at the end of each column group and summarizes the cells shown in the group. It saves no formula. It is not the same as a parent row that adds up the rows beneath it; see Totals, aggregation, and time rollups. A table starts with Sum, or Last when it shows a Dimension’s values. Text and true-or-false values offer only None, Count, and Last; dates add Minimum and Maximum. The summary is saved with the table.

What colors and marks mean

What you can type into a cell

Recognized currency signs, before or after the number: $, €, £, ¥, ₹, A$, C$, and NZ$. A number cannot carry both a currency sign and %. A pasted cell follows the same rules, and a formula copied from a cfo.ai table pastes as that formula. ⌘ Shift V pastes values only.

Where to open the formula editor

For writing and saving formulas, see Write a formula.

When a change is not saved

A change saves in the background. When cfo.ai refuses it, the cells go back to what they showed and a notice appears. Its title names what you did, and its text says why.

Why a change was not saved

The text under the notice titles names the reason. In an open formula editor, the same reasons appear under the editor after Could not save the formula.

Why a layout change was undone

The text of Couldn’t apply that change:

Other notices

When a table cannot load or calculate, its notices, such as We couldn’t load this table, are listed in Formula errors and warnings.

Why a table looks empty

Where each setting is saved

Version history does not list changes to column widths or pinned columns.

What a table cannot do

To add a chart, ask Ari; the block menu has no chart block. See Create and organize Pages and blocks.
