Point at what should change
Mention the exact cell, row, or table. Right-click a cell and choose Mention cell in chat, right-click a row or column label and choose Mention in chat, or open a table’s block menu and choose Mention table in chat. Or select a cell or a table and press ⌘ L (Ctrl L on Windows and Linux). Ari then edits that place instead of guessing which one you meant. You can also name it: “the Price assumption on the Revenue Page” is clearer than “the price”.Customers often call the inputs of a forecast “assumptions”. In cfo.ai each one is a Variable or a value in a Table block, and you can name it either way.

Say what to change, and what to leave alone
State the change and fence off everything else in the same message:
Change the Starter plan price to $49 from January. Only change that price. Leave the other plans, the dashboard, and the table layout as they are.
Move the start dates of the two Q1 engineering hires to April. Don’t change salaries or any other hire.
Fix the formula for Gross margin in the Downside Scenario only. Don’t rename anything and don’t add Pages.
3
For a risky change, work in a Scenario
If you are not sure you want the change, have Ari make it in a Scenario, so Main, your plan, stays as it is until you decide:
Create a Scenario called Price test, change the Starter price to $49 there, and compare cash with Main.See Test a decision in a Scenario.
4
For a large change, ask for the plan first
Before a change that touches many tables, ask Ari to show its plan before it changes anything:
Before you change anything, show me your plan for restructuring the expense tables.Ari shows a plan card. Read what it will create and the assumptions it will use, change any that are wrong, and select Build it, or select Make changes to describe what to do differently. See Answer Ari’s questions and approve its actions.
5
Review what changed
While Ari works, each edit plays on the Page with a caption showing the old and new value, such as
5% → 4%. When it finishes, ask:What exactly did you change? List every table, formula, and value.Every change is also listed in version history, newest first, with who made it. See Chat controls and messages for what the captions and cards show.
Take a change back
If Ari changed more than you wanted, ask:Undo that last change.Ari undoes the most recent change as a whole. To undo an older change, describe it, such as “Undo the change to the hiring plan from this morning,” or undo it in version history. See Undo a change or restore an earlier version.
If Ari keeps changing things you did not ask for
- Stop it as soon as you see it: select Stop, then say what to leave alone. See Steer, stop, or add to Ari’s work.
- Make the fence part of the request every time, such as “Only change X” or “Work in the Price test Scenario only”.
- Ask Ari to remember a lasting preference, such as “Never rename Variables without asking”, so it carries the preference into later chats. See Teach Ari your company’s conventions.
