Watch the change on the Page
When the Page that Ari is changing is open, Ari points at each change on the table and explains it in a short note. To see only the finished edits marked instead, turn off Show Ari’s edits as they happen under Thinking animation in Settings → Ari. The setting is saved for this browser.Read the Formulas card in the chat
With Show Ari’s edits as they happen turned off, Ari’s formula saves in a turn collect under a Formulas card in the chat. Expand it to see one row for each save, and expand a row to see one card per formula it saved. Each card shows:- The Variable’s name.
- Where the formula applies, as pills: an item such as Sales, or a Dimension’s name, such as Department, when the formula applies to every item. A + any pill means it also applies to finer breakdowns under them. Any Segment means it applies everywhere.
- The formula itself.
- The formula range, Actuals or Forecast, when the formula is limited to one. A card with no range applies to every period.
Check the formula in the table
Open the formula the way you would to edit it, for example by pointing at the row name and selecting the fx button, Edit variable formula. Read the editor’s title: it names the Variable and where the formula applies. To see every row’s formula at once, show the formula columns; see Show or hide the formula columns.Check the numbers
Ask Ari to check the result against what you expect:Check the resulting values in the P&L table and compare them with Revenue minus Cost of Goods Sold.
Verify this formula for Sales and Engineering for the next three months.Look in particular at:
- The first Forecast month, where a formula that reads the previous month starts from the last Actuals month.
- The totals above a breakdown, which should match the rows beneath them.
- A few items of each Dimension the formula applies to, not only the first.
Read Ari’s warnings
Some saves come with a warning. The formula saved, but it may not do what its wording suggests, such as a filter that matches no item or an imported Variable read in Forecast months. If a number looks wrong right after a change, ask:Read back any warnings from that change.Every refusal and warning is listed in Formula errors and warnings.
Fix or take back a change
- To find the cause before anything changes, ask Ari: “Explain why this formula works for Sales but not Marketing. Do not change anything yet.”
- To correct the change, describe the formula you want and where it applies, then check the numbers again.
- When Ari changed several formulas at once, ask which changes were saved and whether any were refused.
- To undo the change, ask Ari, “Undo that last change,” or open Version history from the clock icon in the Page header, select the change’s … actions button, and choose Undo this change. ⌘ Z does not undo Ari’s changes. See Undo a change or restore an earlier version.
